John Deere’s New Rate Controller 3 – FarmCast Ep.66
John Deere’s New Rate Controller 3
John Deere’s new Rate Controller 3 (RC3) is here, completely redesigned from the ground up to replace the GS2 Rate Controller. Farmers have relied on the GS2 for nearly two decades. In this episode of The FarmCast, Troy Randall and Precision Ag Specialist Preston Jueneman walk through the new hardware, cleaner wiring layout, and easier mounting. They also discuss the redesigned connectors and updated harnessing options that make installation simpler and more reliable. After a full year of field testing, the RC3 has proven itself as a more stable, serviceable, and future-ready platform for liquid and anhydrous application.
The software experience has seen the biggest leap forward. The rate controller now uses the app-style interface on the Gen 4 and G5 displays, making setup and navigation far more intuitive. Operators can now use a virtual master switch and multiple types of height switches. They can also import and export profiles. Improved calibrations and tuning tools give clearer feedback. Summary pages, diagnostics, and pressure sensor mapping are all more accurate and easier to use, while operations sync cleanly with the John Deere Operations Center. RC3 supports one or two liquid products and liquid and anhydrous combinations. It will be capable of dry application in future software updates.
Available now!
The RC3 is available now, starting December 2025 for 2026 season installations. It’s a major step forward for customers moving away from older controllers or ISO-BUS limitations. Moreover, it provides a solid foundation for upcoming precision-ag features. You can see the RC3 and other new technologies at the High Plains Expo on February 25th in Greeley, Colorado.
